Our 50th
Reunion is being held at the Crown Plaza Hotel and Event Center.
Believe it or not, we were here for our 20th Reunion when it was
known as the Scanticon! It seems like half a lifetime ago, and
literally, it almost was!
Wayzata and the area have grown up a lot since
we graduated and for venues suitable for a reunion, we find
ourselves competing with weddings and booking a year in advance.
So the Crown Plaza offered a great space for our reunion with food,
fun, lodging (for those that need it) and it's close to our Wayzata
home base. In fact, it is just short trip down the road from
the Friday gathering at French Park.
The last couple reunions have
featured dinner cruises on Lake Minnetonka and for the 50th, we are
reverting back to the more traditional venue where we can have a great
place to socialize, have dinner and a program, music, memorabilia and
etc. This will allow our classmates to mingle and wander without
worrying about "missing the boat"! No lifejackets required!
We have also made arrangements for special rates to book
a room at the hotel for out of town travelers and those that want to
stay as long as they want and not have to worry about driving home!
Ask for the WHS Class of 1968 Block of Rooms - the rate is $99
guaranteed and the hotel has great amenities for fitness, swimming, etc.
Reservations are available at this rate until Sept 8th. We are currently working on
dinner menus and trying to get a headcount to help us figure out what it
will cost per person to cover the expenses. We estimate roughly
$75 per person. Please watch for a
mailing/emailing that asks you for some updates and an idea of who is
coming and how many are bringing "significant others" to the event.
Dinner Menu This event is open to all
of our classmates that grew up with us and attended any of the
grades along the way. While there were 269 that received diplomas
from Wayzata in 1968, we estimate that there could be 400-500 classmates
that were only with us part of the time but still have friendships and
fond memories of our trip through the years at Wayzata and St. Barts.
We have posted names of over 300 classmates that consider themselves to
be part of our class and encourage you to reach out to them and others
that should be seeing this information.
Over the past 50 years, our reunions started with formal
dress, suit and tie. Each reunion since the 20th has gotten more
casual, more fun, more relaxed. This event will continue that
trend and all are invited to be comfortable and come for fun!
We've had a lifetime since high school and there is much to talk about,
much to share and we all have the same years at Wayzata in common.
